I'm not 100% sure, but I think Station Avenue was developed out of Station Road.

I think you might be right Tonker. I cannot find it on any maps from the 40/50s. I got the address of 47 station road orrell from info from a will.. maybe it was a misprint and should have read station ave..

I don't think there has ever been a Station Road. It isn't mentioned on WW 1933 list of streets. The 1945-65 OS map shows no street where Station Ave now is 1945-65 os map

Going further back to 1900's, nothing there:

1900s

Station Avenue did exist in 1968 as per WW list of residents here 1968 orrell

Perhaps this shows your uncle?

Thank you pewfall. So near and yet so far…my great uncle died in 1966 his wife must have moved away shortly after. After reading your input. It must have been station avenue number 47. Were these built prior to 1966?

Links fixed. I don't know when vicinity of no.47 was built but they appear 1950's/early 60's to me. The older houses at the start of Station Avenue show on the 1900's map and still exist today. I suspect they were originally part of Church street and possibly not all domestic properties at the time. The 1911 census implies this as it jumps form 112 to 118 Church Street.
